DETAILS: CIRCA 1987 - The ballet slipper, as we know it was created from a fashionable shoe from the 19th century slipper. Early on the slipper toes were filled with padding, later in the 20th century, & in order to meet the artistic demands of dancing EN POINT, the toe was hardened with glue. Dancers would still go through a number of pairs a week.
